How The Mountain Came To Be

"Well, now lik I said afore, I'm here to give you a little tour of these parts and
kinda introduce you aroun' to the folks up here on the mountn', but furst I thout I might
jus give you a little bit of an idea 'bout how it all came to be. Wild Willie's II
Mountain is a place of rustic buildings and good clean fun, but it wasn't always that way.
Just a little while ago this was just another East Texas hillside covered with brush and
trees. Now that's the way it wuz until my friend Willie comed along here. I'd lik you to
meet Willie Martinek (alias Wild Willie)"
"I guess you could say that
Willie was a "semi-retired junk artist" bak then. His son Dustin (alias Wild
Willie II) and he was workin' in Canton, Texas every month at the First Monday
Trade Days selling their welded artwork when, early in '95, they had a dream. They looked
on a hillside and, where others saw an overgrown bunch of trees, brush, and briars; they
saw a town. Now this warn't just any town, but it would be a town that invited traders,
shoppers, entertainers, and just plain fun-seekers to assemble here ever month for a
unique kind of experience rite here in Canton. Together they spread the word and the
vision and everbody was excited about the vision and wanted to join in on the fun and to
build their dreams on the mountn'."

"They came from all over, and they came with whatever they had in
transportation, tools, skills and family. Why, we had folks from Canton and Wills Point,
and we also had folks from further away, lik Louisiana, and Arkansas, an places I cant
even spel! They all brought something unique with them that would make their personal
vision special and by doin' that, they made Wild Willie's II Mountain special! They all
came and they started to build their places on the mountain."
"Some had a vision to build a single cabin where they would open a
shop."

"Others wanted to build a whole town or a subdivision within the
town and here they found a place that wus just the rite size for their dream too."

"Together, they came and in only a couple of months, a town was
appearing before our very eyes! Some came with a crew and started building a hole bunch of
buildings. Others came alone to build their dream. Where previously you could only hear
the sound of the wind throu the trees, and a few birds or varmits now and then, you could
now hear the sound of industrious souls toilin' away with saws, axes, and hammers carvin'
their niche on the mountn'. We finished those early days with skinned knuckes, tired
bones, and sore muscles, but everbody continued until they had their own spot on the
mountn'. Now that's why the mountn' is so different from everwhere else. It's the folks
what made it happen and their dreams and work that made it what you see here today!"
